MONITORING FOR SUCCESS

LGG in association with ACSeS is staging two one-day conferences for monitoring officers in London and Manchester.

The programme will examine the changes in local government and some of the key challenges, particularly in the context of governance, conduct and standards, and it will also seek to identify some pragmatic and practical solutions.

The latest round of local government reorganisation will see the creation of new larger units of unitary governance and the disappearance of existing smaller ones.  At the same time, parishes are seen as an essential building block in the new governance structure.

The conferences will be chaired by Mark Hynes from the London Borough of Lambeth and feature speakers from the Standards Board for England, representatives from local authorities, and from law practices Bevan Brittan and Wragge & Co.

A detailed and engaging programme will include an overview of the ethical framework, the legislative agenda, the "parish perspective", a look at the experiences of those who have moved from monitoring officer to chief executive, an examination of what to do when things get tough (including ACSeS' Help is at Hand scheme), and a panel Q&A session.

  • The conferences will take place in London on February 18 and Manchester on March 12 and the day carries 5.0 CPD points. For a detailed agenda and to book, visit London or Manchester
