Health & Safety Conference

With the recently implemented Corporate Manslaughter Act, Health and Safety Law has a prominence that cannot be ignored.  For Local Government Lawyers/Officers there has never been a time when the developments in health and safety have been more important.  Whether you are enforcing health and safety or concerned about how vulnerable you are as an employer, this course will provide an essential guide to the new manslaughter Act and other important regulatory and caselaw developments that will affect you.  The course will have relevance to all local government lawyers/officers/managers.

The course is being delivered by two experienced health and safety law practitioners.  Richard Voke was once in the HSE as an inspector prosecuting his own cases, now he mostly defends large corporate organisations against the HSE and local authorities.  He has a unique insight into how to build a case or attack it.  Most importantly, he advises on how to avoid getting into health and safety trouble in the first place.  Barry Berlin has a considerable reputation in prosecuting health and safety cases for government organisations.

The day will cover:

Richard Voke will cover:

  • The new law compared to the old
  • Who the new law is likely to affect
  • What constitutes an offence
  • What the new law means to companies and individuals
  • What measures need to be taken to prevent the new law affecting you
  • The Code of Practice on Senior Manager responsibilities

Barry Berlin will cover:

  • Preparation for Health and Safety Prosecutions
  • Prosecution Duties
  • Correct Defendant
  • Evidence Gathering
