This day will presume nil or basic knowledge
This day will:
- Give a comprehensive overview of the whole system of planning law
- Show how law and policy work together in that system
- Identify the main problem areas for practitioners
- Look at some of the ways those problems have been overcome
- Identify any problems which are still outstanding
- Review the main changes introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and the Localism Bill.
It will be of interest to:
- Public sector lawyers with little or no knowledge of the planning system who feel that they ought to know more
- Any land lawyer or conveyancer who wants to move into planning law as a specialism
- Planners who need to brush up on their legal knowledge
- Council Members who are on, or who aspire to be on, planning committees
The day will cover:
- The historical context of the planning system
- The meaning of development
- The law and procedure of determining planning applications
- Section 106 obligations
- The enforcement of planning control
