Planning Law Basic Survival Guide - Full

This day will presume nil or basic knowledge

This day will:

  • Give a comprehensive overview of the whole system of planning law
  • Show how law and policy work together in that system
  • Identify the main problem areas for practitioners
  • Look at some of the ways those problems have been overcome
  • Identify any problems which are still outstanding
  • Review the main changes introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and the Localism Bill.

It will be of interest to:

  • Public sector lawyers with little or no knowledge of the planning system who feel that they ought to know more
  • Any land lawyer or conveyancer who wants to move into planning law as a specialism
  • Planners who need to brush up on their legal knowledge
  • Council Members who are on, or who aspire to be on, planning committees

The day will cover:

  • The historical context of the planning system
  • The meaning of development
  • The law and procedure of determining planning applications
  • Section 106 obligations
  • The enforcement of planning control
